Course Outline
This course will establish a general and specific understanding of the assessment, care, and rehabilitation of perinatal patients in a manual therapy clinical setting with the goal of immediate application to practice. We will go over pregnancy anatomy, head to toe assessment including both historical and physical examination, commonly seen clinical presentations and pearls, rehabilitation (birth preparation and postpartum recovery), interprofessional collaboration options, and informed choice in the birth world.
This course is open to manual therapists (chiropractors, RMTs, etc.).
Course Objectives
• establish evidence-informed assessment, care, and rehabilitation of perinatal patients
• perform a thorough and thoughtful prenatal, birth, postpartum historical examination
• review musculoskeletal reasons why perinatal patients seek care
• gain general understanding of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum and musculoskeletal-related practice considerations
• understand team/interprofessional dynamics of perinatal care in the community
• enhance general knowledge of various other topics with emphasis on informed choice in the birth world
Instructor

Dr. Zehra holds a Bachelor in health sciences (pre-med) from Brock University and Doctor of Chiropractic from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. She holds additional trainings and certification with Wise Woman Way of Birth Doula, BirthFit, Spinning Babies, Prenatal Yoga Instructor, and much more.

Treating primarily perinatal and neonatal patients, Dr. Zehra is belly and baby obsessed and spends most of her down time continuing her education in the birth field, occasionally attending births to provide house calls and birth doula support. She strives to empower her pregnant patients to functionally train for birth as it is one of the most significant athletic events in life. Dr. Zehra also focuses on interprofessional collaboration, often co-management with her favourite RMTs, pelvic floor PTs, midwives, maternity doctors, counsellor, lactation consultants, la leche league leaders, and of course Ridge Meadows Doula Services.

Dr. Zehra serves as Chair of the British Columbia Chiropractic Association board of directors, enthusiastically supporting the advancement of the profession in the province.
